Summary
In February 2026, EPA finished what the 2025 proposal started: it rescinded the 2009 finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare, and it repealed the vehicle standards that rested on that finding. Without that finding, those Clean Air Act greenhouse-gas rules for cars and trucks have no legal predicate. One administration built the authority; the next took it down.
