Summary

In September 2026, EPA repealed most of the 2024 carbon pollution standards for fossil-fuel power plants. The final rule removes the emission guidelines for existing coal and steam units and the carbon-capture standards for modified coal plants and new baseload gas turbines. Signed September 14, published September 17, effective November 16. No floor vote. The same week, EPA proposed going further and wiping the remaining power-plant greenhouse-gas findings; that part is not final. This is the 2024 power-plant climate rule taken off the books, in the same line as the Clean Power Plan repeal.
