Statement record
Cliff Bentz — Jul 28, 2026
U.S. Representative (R-OR-02) · Jul 28, 2026
In a Jul. 28 release, Rep. Bentz noted FEMA approved three of five Oregon Fire Management Assistance Grant requests (Lower Dry Creek, Awaka Butte, Grasshopper) but that Rowe Creek and East Evans Creek had been denied earlier despite Level 3 evacuations. He wrote that the approved fires "could have become major disasters" without intervention and "appear, sadly, that these have indeed become major fires," pledging to work with FEMA on Oregon suppression costs.
Analysis notes
GOP-framing track (out-of-window). Federal-aid / oversight frame on active PNW fires; no climate mention. Documents Republican engagement on OR fire season before the Jul 31 national-wire anchor.
Codes
